Original 1940s French Moleskin Belt Back Work Jacket

SOLD

Code: 54548

A fantastic original French belted back moleskin work jacket dating from the 1940s.

This type of jacket is synonymous with French artisans, workers and labourers of the mid-century period and is arguably the most iconic jacket ever produced in France. Widely known as 'Bleu de Travail', these jackets were a common sight in France for many decades.

The jacket is made from a blue coloured moleskin which has worn down and faded out with wear and use. It features three patch pockets to the front and a pronounced notched lapel which is typical of the 1930s and 1940s. The jacket features a three button front and the rear features a belted back and pleats which was a popular style in the 1930s and is now coveted by collectors.

The jacket has some incredible fades and the collar has been turned as the (now underside of the collar) wore through with use (picture 10). Because the underside is now seen it has created a contrasting colour of deeper blue which is a great detail. There are also two period repair patches to the rear of the left sleeve as illustrated in picture 12.

Inside the jacket there is a patch pocket to which the original label is still present. It bears the maker's name of 'Perfecta'. Part of the stitching of the pocket has come away which can be seen in the pictures and is not a serious issue.

The jacket will suit a 40" chest and when laid flat it measure -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 28"

The jacket is in good wearable condition with some minor flaws which have already been mentioned. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned jacket which has small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice period jacket with desirable belt back!
