Early 20th Century Mackenzie Tartan Trews by 'Meyer & Mortimer'

£165.00 Approx $205.22, €192.76

Code: 54450

A rare original pair of officer's Mackenzie Tartan Trews dating from the early part of the 20th Century.

These trousers originally belonged to an officer of the Seaforth Highlanders who would have served during the Edwardian period. The trousers date from around the 1900s to the early 1920s based on the cut and construction. They feature a high rise waist with a large pronounced fishtail rise to the rear as well as a flat front which are both typical early details. The narrow leg is also another detail from this period. As well as this the feature a button fly and more buttons are positioned around the waist to which braces can be attached. There is a small ticket pocket at the waist and the partial lining is made from materials which are again indicative of early trousers.

There are no labels inside the trousers although the buttons are marked with the maker's name of 'Meyer & Mortimer' who were a prolific military and civilian tailors who are still trading today. They were well known for making tartan trews such as this and the design of these trousers goes back to the 19th Century.

The trousers will suit up to a 36" waist. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 18 1/4"
Rise - 14"
Rear rise - 24"
Inside leg - 32"
Outside leg - 46"
Cuff - 8"

The trousers are in good condition and display well. There are some small moth holes which are only noticeable under close scrutiny. There are some to the seat as well as to the bottom of one of the legs which is illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A very early pair of tartan trews from a prestigious maker.
