Original 1941 Dated Canadian Battledress Trousers - Size 14

SOLD

Code: 54440

An original pair of 1941 dated Canadian made battledress trousers in a large size 14.

This pattern of trousers was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War and saw widespread issue with Canadian troops throughout the conflict. Many British soldiers, particularly officers, also wore Canadian made battledress if they could get their hands on it as it was perceived to be of a higher quality to British made examples. In cut it closely follows the British 'Battledress, Serge' issued at the beginning of the war. It is however made from a darker, greener shade of serge and features Canadian pattern buttons. The first field dressing pocket also fastens with buttons as do the ankle tabs found at the bottom of each leg.

Inside the trousers the original markings are still present and state the size as No.14. The original paper is also present to the rear which is rare to find and was only used on early manufactured Canadian battledress. It bears the maker's name of 'The T. Eaton Co' along with the size of 14. The 1941 date is present to the bottom right corner of the label.

The trousers are a hard to find larger size and will suit a 34" waist. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 17 1/2"
Inside leg - 33"

The trousers are in worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. They still display reasonably well but have suffered from moth damage. This is most notable to the rear and is also present to the front legs. This damage has been reflected in the low price but please take time to study the pictures and access the damage before purchasing.

A very early dated pair which still have their original label. Whilst not in the best condition they could be restored and would still look fairly good if displayed.
