Original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Forage Cap

SOLD

Code: 54402

An original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Forage Cap in good condition which dates from the Second World War.

These caps came into issue with the RAF shortly before the Second World War and were worn by all airmen of the rank of Flight Sergeant and below. It is now an iconic piece of wartime RAF clothing synonymous with both Sergeant Aircrew and ground crew alike.

This particular example features a brass Kings crown cap badge and two brass Kings crown buttons to the front as was standard at the beginning of WW2 and make it ideal for someone looking for an early example.

The original maker's stamp is still visible to the interior but is hard to read. The War Department broad arrow marking is still visible but I cannot see the date. The original owner has marked his serial number which may offer the opportunity of further research.

The cap is around a size 7 and measures 10 1/2" along the opening when laid flat.

The condition of the cap is good as can be seen in the photographs. It only shows minimal signs of wear, mainly to the interior and there are some flaws to the exterior as shown in the pictures. It is still a nice deep blue colour and displays well.

A good wartime example of this RAF hat which would make a nice addition to a Second World War RAF collection.
