Original WW2 RAF Officer's Forage Cap - Large SIze

SOLD

Code: 54398

An original Royal Air Force officers forage cap dating from the Second World War and in a hard to find large size.

These caps were a popular alternative to the peaked cap for RAF officers during WW2 as they were much easier to store in a pocket or similar. They were worn throughout the war in all theatres.

This example is made from the standard RAF blue coloured barathea wool which is usually used for this pattern of hat. It features a brass King's crown badge to left side and two brass King's crown RAF buttons to the front. The interior of the cap is lined with cotton and features a velvet headband.

Inside the cap there are no labels or markings but it is clearly an original item. The original owner has marked his name to the interior which reads 'Holmes'.

The hat is a rare large size which is approximately a 7 3/8. When laid flat it measures 11" along the length of the opening.

The cap is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It displays very well with only limited signs of wear and age but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original wartime side cap in a very hard to find large size!
