Original 1942 Dated RAF Ordinary Airman's Forage Cap - Size 7 1/4

SOLD

Code: 54391

An original WW2 RAF Ordinary Airman's Forage Cap in good condition which was made in 1942.

These caps came into issue with the RAF shortly before the Second World War and were worn by all airmen of the rank of Flight Sergeant and below. It is now an iconic piece of wartime RAF clothing synonymous with both Sergeant Aircrew and ground crew alike.

This particular example features a brass Kings crown cap badge and two brass Kings crown buttons to the front as was standard at the beginning of WW2 and make it ideal for someone looking for an early example.

The original maker's stamp is still visible to the interior and the 1942 date can just be made out. The size is also present and is 7 1/4 which is a larger and harder to find size. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'Z' which denotes 1945 as the year of issue.

The cap has been issued and is in good condition as can be seen in the photographs. It only shows minimal signs of wear, mainly to the interior.

All in all a very nice early war example of this RAF hat which would make a good addition to a Second World War RAF collection.
