Original 1930s British Collarless Wool Flannel Shirt by 'Kingston'

SOLD

Code: 54379

An original 1930s wool flannel collarless shirt made by 'Kingston' and in good condition.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1920s-40s. It is made from a cream coloured wool which has a classic blue and oatmeal striped pattern running through it. The shirt is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity. The shirt features a barrel cuff which fastens with a button.

These shirts are often described as 'double front' as the upper portion of the shirt features two layers of wool making for a very warm shirt!

The collar is a neckband style which is made from white cotton. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior which reads 'Union Flannel Kingston The Pleasal Make'. Below this is a smaller label which bears the number '3' and relates to size.

The shirt will suit around a 42" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 20 1/2"
Length at back - 35"
Collar - 14"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller on the chest than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in good condition and is still very wearable. There are no serious flaws and some limited signs of wear and use. It is a good wearable example which displays well but is a vintage, pre-worn shirt so may have other small issues commensurate with age. Please take time to study the pictures.

An original period shirt with a great label which is in good condition!
