Original 1941 Dated British Khaki Drill Shirt - Size 40

SOLD

Code: 54315

A hard to find original 1941 dated British Army Khaki Drill shirt in issued condition.

This pattern or shirt was introduced at the beginning of the Second World War and was issued to all ranks of the British Army and also saw use with the RAF. It is made from cellular cotton which is a lightweight, breathable fabric ideally suited to the tropics. It features long sleeves, two pleated breast pockets, a stand and fall collar and straps at the shoulder to which removable epaulettes can be fitted. One of the original plastic buttons is still present to the front whilst the other two are period replacements and the top one has been removed as the collar has been worn open. The sleeves have been shortened at some stage.

Inside the collar of the shirt the original markings are still bright and legible. The maker's name of 'Sunray' and under this is the 1941 date. There is also a War Department broad arrow marking and the size is marked as 4 which is a larger size, not often encountered today.

The shirt is a medium size which will fit a 40" chest well When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 18"

The shirt is in worn condition and was clearly issued and used. It is still wearable and has no serious flaws or damage although there is staining and general signs of wear etc. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original early war shirt with a good clear date.
