Original WW2 RAF War Service Dress Battledress Blouse

SOLD

Code: 54313

An original WW2 RAF War Service Dress Blouse in well worn condition.

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle usually associated with early manufacture 'Suits, Aircrew' blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps, black plastic buttons all round and a pair of hook and eyes to close the neck. There is some faint shadowing to the sleeves where it looks to have had rank badges removed as well as two holes which may suggest that this belonged to a flight sergeant. There is also a shadow and some stitching above the right breast pocket where it looks like a wing has been fitted previously.

Inside the jacket the original label is no longer present although there is an anti-vesicant stamp which has been crossed out which confirms this as a wartime produced jacket. AV stamps are usually only seen on items made in the earlier part of the war which means this may by a Suits Aircrew jacket, rather than a War Service Dress blouse.

The jacket will suit around a 38" chest depending desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22"
Waist - 14 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 21"

The jacket is in well worn condition with various signs of wear and use. There is wear around the collar and some fading and staining. There is a hole to the left sleeve but overall the jacket displays reasonably well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it has some flaws etc.

Whilst not the finest example of a wartime RAF BD jacket, it is a wartime example which has a nice worn look to it.
