Scarce Original 1944 Dated British Army Drill Green Battledress Blouse

£185.00 Approx $233.29, €215.87

Code: 54301

A rare original 1944 dated British Army Drill Green Battledress Blouse in a size a and in nice condition.

At first glance this jacket appears to be a standard wartime pattern Denim Battledress when in fact they are the much rarer drill pattern. Rather than being made of denim, this pattern of tunic is made from cotton drill which is a noticeably more vivid green colour. Interestingly, the label still states it as a denim jacket when it is made of a different material!

The jacket is fitted with a full matched set of dark brown coloured revolving shank buttons which are all held on with metal split rings. A wartime pattern chromium plated waist buckle fastens the waist and is held on with green vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons as was standard for late war manufacture.

The jacket is fitted with medal ribbons above the left breast pocket which appear to be original to the jacket. They are mounted on a brass backing which is secure to the jacket with a pin which is typical of the era. The ribbons include The 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal which denote that the original owner was a veteran of the Great War. This could suggest that it was worn by a member of the Home Guard.

Inside the original label is still present and is still bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Overalls, Blouse Denim', the size of 8 and the manufacturer's name of 'A. Rosner & Sons Ltd'. The 1944 date is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jacket is designed to fit someone of a 39" - 41" chest and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 24"
Waist - 18 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2
Length - 24"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. It displays well and it still very wearable but please take time to study the puctures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A hard to find original wartime jacket with intersting details and a nice clear label.
