Original 1950s British Men's Nautical Peacoat Jacket by 'Fairview'

SOLD

Code: 54285

A nice original British peacoat made by the 'Fairview' in the 1950s.

This coat is cut in the peacoat style which is now a timeless classic. This example is a typical British garment and was most likely bought by someone who was ex Royal Navy and still sailing as part of a sailing or yacht club.

The jacket is made from a heavy serge wool which is a deep navy blue colour. It features a double breasted front which fastens with plastic buttons which have an anchor to the front. Flapped pockets are located to the lower portion and there are slash pockets above this. The rear of the coat features two short vents whilst the interior is fully lined and features a single interior pocket. Below this is the original label which bears the maker's name of 'The Fairview Brand' and typical early 1950s graphics. Below this is a second label which reads 'Showerproof' which is a label commonly found on garments produced in this period.

The coat will suit a 40" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 3/4"
Length - 32 1/2"

The coat is in good condition for its age and is still very wearable. It shows plenty of signs of wear and use, particularly around the collar and the pocket flaps as well as the edge of the wrap. It displays well and looks good when worn none-the-less and was clearly a well loved jacket by the original owner. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage item with some small flaws commensurate with age.

A fantastic and rare British peacoat with a great period label. This would make an excellent addition to any wardrobe!
