Original Early 1950s British Hacking Jacket by 'Pratt, Manning & Co'

SOLD

Code: 54261

An original men's three button jacket dogtooth checked tweed sports jacket made in the 1950s by 'Pratt, Manning & Co'.

This style of jacket was highly popular in the UK during the 1940s and 1950s and would have been worn as a casual jacket with trousers such as grey flannels. Cut in a typically British manner, the jacket features a three button single breasted front fastening and a notched collar which has a slightly smaller shape than those made in the previous decade. Flapped pockets are located to the skirt whilst a single angled welt pocket can be found to the left breast. There is a  rear vent which is typical of hacking jackets from this period. The jacket is made from a classic dogtooth checked tweed which has an oatmeal field with brown and blue colours interspersed. The interior of the jacket is fully lined with a golden coloured rayon material and there is a single interior pocket.

Inside the interior pocket the original label is present and is very sans-serif which is typical of early labels. It bears the maker's name of 'Pratt, Manning & Co Cambridge' and has had the original owners name and details erased at some stage.

The jacket will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 30 1/2"

The jacket is in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. Like many hacking jackets from the period, it shows signs of use and staining commensurate with heavy country wear. It was common for these jackets for many years, even decades. The photographs illustrate various repairs and patches, all of which have been expertly done many years ago. Some edges have had a binding added which is again typical. Please take time to study these before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item.

A classic British hacking jacket which has some fantastic details.
