Original 1950s Air Commodore's Khaki Drill Tunic by 'Burberry'

SOLD

Code: 54090

An original 1950s Royal Air Force Air Commodore's khaki drill tunic which was made by the famous maker 'Burberry'.

This tunic belonged to a pilot who was a veteran of the Second World War and rose through the ranks to become an Air Commodore. He was a recipient of the Royal Victorian Order as well as the Distinguished Service Order and his WW2 campaign ribbons show that he flew in Italy as well as over North West Europe.

The tunic is a high quality example which is made from a tan coloured gabardine wool material. It is cut in the standard RAF pattern with a four button front, pleated patch pockets with scalloped pocket flaps to the chest, lower bellows pockets and a matching waist belt. All of the buttons are Queen's crown staybrite examples as is the waist belt buckle. The tunic is fitted with a very nice padded Queen's crown pilot's wing above the medal ribbons and the epaulettes are fitted with Air Commodore rank.

The interior of the tunic is fully lined and features a hanging loop at the the neck. A large Burberry label is fitted below this and features the classic Burberry logo along with the words 'Made in England'.

The jacket will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 19 1/2"
Waist - 16 1/2"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length - 29 1/2"

The tunic is in good condition for its age and displays well. It has clearly been worn and has faded evenly leaving only parts of the jacket not visible when worn their original colour. There is a small hole to the right sleeve and another couple of small holes below the right shoulder although these do not overly detract from the garment. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice 1950s tunic with a high rank and a lovely pilot's wing.
