Scarce Original 1943 Dated Ladies National Fire Service NFS 8 Tunic

SOLD

Code: 53990

A rare original women's National Fire Service Tunic dating from 1943 and in very good condition.

The National Fire Service was formed in August 1941 by amalgamating the wartime Auxiliary Fire Service and the local authority fire brigades. Officially designated 'Jacket, Women's NFS 80'; this jacket is made from a black coloured wool serge and features a single breasted front and a convertable stand and fall collar which can be fastened around the throat. Plain patch pockets are located the chest and feature pointed pocket flaps, whilst flapped pockets can be found to the skirt. Silver coloured metal buttons which feature the 'NFS' logo are fitted throughout and the original waist belt is also still present which is complete with metal buckle.

Inside the tunic this original label is still present and is bright and legible. The size of 5 and the specific size details are legible as is the maker's name of 'Robert Hunter Ltd' and the 1943 date.

The jacket is designed to fit a 33"-34" bust and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 17"
Waist - 13"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 23 1/4"
Shoulders - 14 1/2"
Length - 25"

The jacket is in very good condition overall and is still very wearable. It is possibly unissued as it does not appear to show signs of wear and use and has not had badges added. It displays very well but is of course a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original jacket with a clear wartime date. This would make an excellent addition to any Home Front collection without a doubt!
