Original 1930s Deadstock French Spearpoint Collar Shirt - Size 39

SOLD

Code: 53800

A scarce original 1930s French spearpoint collar shirt in amazing deadstock, unworn condition.

This shirt is typical of those produced in France during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from a sanforized pre-shrunk cotton in a striking mole brown blue colour. It features a half-placket front which is pulled on over the wearer's head. This style was commonplace in the first half of the 20th Century with full button front shirts gaining popularity and replacing these by the 1950s. The shirt has long sleeves which end in a barrel cuff and the collar is attached and features a fantastic spearpoint shape, as was popular during this period.

Inside the neck of the shirt the original label is still present which features typical period graphics. Above this is the size label which reads '39'. There is also an original card label fitted over the collar which bears the maker's name of 'EEB' and the remnants of a paper label is located at the front.

This style of shirt is always cut wide in the body to allow it to be taken on and off and this needs to be taken into account when studying the measurements. When laid flat the shirt measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 22 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at back - 37"
Collar - 16"

The shirt is in excellent condition with no signs of previous wear and use. There are some light marks from storage but these may come out with washing. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A fantastic original 1940s shirt. Collar attached shirts from this period are hard to find today - Especially in deadstock condition!
