Original 1940s CC41 Rayon Summer Shirt by 'St Michael' - Size M

SOLD

Code: 53773

An original 1940s summer shirt made by 'St Michael' as part of the CC41 Utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons.

This shirt is not typical of British items from the 1940s and has a more continental, or even American, feel to it. It is made from a very light weight rayon type fabric which is soft and silk-like to the touch. It also features a full button front and a patch pocket, which are again not typical of British clothing from this era. It features a large, spearpoint shaped collar which was popular and inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'St. Michael' along with the CC41 utility marking and the size of M.

The shirt will suit around a 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Collar - 15 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"

The shirt is in worn condition and has a number of flaws which are reflected in the price. These include holes which are illustrated in the pictures. Please study these carefully before purchasing as, whilst still wearable, the shirt has various damage.

An original 1940s British summer shirt with a great label!
