Original 1940s White Summer Sports Shirt by 'Bukta'

SOLD

Code: 53752

An original 1940s men's summer shirt made by 'Bukta'.

This shirt is typical of those made in the 1940s and features the classic Bukta label from this period. It is made from very light brushed cotton which is soft to the touch and features a half-placket front which is pulled on over the wearer's head. This style of shirt was very popular in the first half of the 20th Century before full button front shirts began to gain popularity in the late 1940s and into the 1950s. The shirt also features a spearpoint collar which is typical of 1940s shirts.

Inside the neck of the shirt the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Bukta Sportswear' below which is the words 'Made in England'. The size label is also present and states the collar as a 15. Half placket shirts are always cut extra wide across the chest meaning that this shirt will suit a 38" chest, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 1/22
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length at back - 35"
Collar - 15 1/2"

The shirt is in well worn condition and has numerous flaws. There are a number of holes to the front although these wouldn't be seen if the shirt was worn tucked in. There is also a hole to the rear of the shoulder and wear to the cuffs. The condition is reflected in the price but please take time to study the pictures carefully as this is a heavily worn shirt with numerous flaws.

Whilst not in great condition, this is still a rare piece of 1940s British sportswear, complete with its original label.
