Original 1940s CC41 Green Corduroy Breeches - Size 35"

SOLD

Code: 53735

An original pair of 1940s British corduroy breeches made as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons.

The breeches are made from a khaki green coloured corduroy material, typical of the period. It is a hard wearing material which is ideally suited to various outdoor pursuits. The legs fasten around the calf with laces and there are reinforcement patches on the inside of each leg, made from the same material as the rest of the garment. The breeches feature a button fly and more buttons are fitted around the waist to which braces can be attached - another typical period feature. Belt loops are positioned around the top of the waist and frog mouth pockets are fitted to the front whilst there is a single pocket to the rear.

Inside the trousers feature a partial lining of white cotton. To this is stitched the CC41 label which is a simple printed example which may suggest these date from the earlier part of the decade.

The breeches are a generous size and have more room around the calves than is usually found on breeches made during this period. They should suit a 35" waist well and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 17 1/2"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 20 1/2"
Inside leg - 20 1/2"
Cuff - 6 3/4"
Calf - 7 1/2"

The breeches are in good condition with some limited signs of previous wear and use. There are no serious flaws or areas of damage but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice pair of original 1940s breeches, complete with the CC41 label.
