Original 1940s Harris Tweed Three Button Jacket by 'Simpson'

SOLD

Code: 53732

A nice original 1940s men's Harris Tweed jacket made by 'Simpson' and in great condition.

The jacket is made from a classic tweed colourway of oatmeal, brown and green-grey. It features a three button front and a notched lapel which is a typically pronounced 1940s shape. As well as the usual breast pocket and flapped lower pockets, the jacket features a flapped ticket pocket above the right pocket which is a feature of sporting jackets from the period. In keeping with the period the jacket is cut short in the body and features no rear vent. This style is often referred to as 'bum freezer' and was the most common length for jackets in the late 1930s and 1940s. The jacket also features padded shoulders which is again another typical trait from this period.

Inside the jacket is fully lined with a brown coloured rayon material and there is a hanging loop to the neck. Both the original labels are present and include the 1940s black Harris Tweed label as well as the two colour Simpson label which features the same graphics as that used on many wartime British officer's clothing, helping to confirm the age of the jacket.

The jacket will suit someone of around a 37" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Length - 30"
Shoulders - 18"

The jacket is in great condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows only limited signs of wear and use and overall it displays very well. Whilst the jacket is totally wearable, please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice 1940s men's jacket in a classic colourway and with great period labels.  This would make a brilliant addition to any wardrobe or collection without a doubt!
