Original 1930s British Collarless Shirt by 'Ede & Ravenscroft'

SOLD

Code: 53711

An original collarless shirt and matching collar which was made by 'Ede & Ravenscroft' during the 1930s.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from a blue stripe cotton with white and dark blue stripes. It is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity.

The collar is a neckband style made from the same material as the body of the shirt. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features a label with a simple, sans serif font. It bears the maker's name of 'Ede & Ravenscroft' along with the Royal appointment and London address.

The shirt comes complete with a matching collar which is made from the same striped material. It features a typical 'spearpoint' shape which was highly popular during the 1930s and 1940s.

The shirt is a smaller size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length at back - 36 1/2"
Collar - 14 1/2"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in good wearable condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows limited signs of wear and age and overall it displays very well. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pe-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

An original pre-war period shirt with a great label. It would suit a variety of wartime uniforms including LDV, Home Guard and many more.
