Original 1950s British Blue Cotton Engineer Jacket by 'Varlson'

SOLD

Code: 53710

A nice original British engineer work jacket made by 'Varlson' during the 1950s.

This style of jacket was very popular in the UK throughout the first half of the 20th Century. The simple three button design is typical of the period and the three patch pockets are utilitarian yet functional ,making them ideal for men working in factories, workshops, garages and many other places. The jacket is made from a cotton drill material and features no rear vent. The front of the jacket fastens with two black coloured revolving shank buttons which are held in place with brass split rings which makes them easy to remove for washing purposes. The middle most button is a period replacement which has been stitched directly to the jacket. The jacket features a notched lapel which is short and pronounced in shape and gives the jacket an early look which could easily pass for 1930s or 1940s.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Varlson' along with the words 'Sanforised shrunk fabric'. These are set against typical graphics from the period.

The jacket is a medium size which will suit around a 38" - 39" chest. The sleeves have been shortened, possibly for painting, and when laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 14"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 28 1/2"

The jacket is in worn condition as can be seen in the photographs. It shows signs of age and wear as well as washing etc. There is staining but overall the jacket is still very wearable. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A classic piece of British workwear with a great label.
