Original 1950s British Khaki Cotton Engineer Jacket

SOLD

Code: 53708

A nice original British engineer work jacket dating from the 1950s and in a classic khaki colour.

This style of jacket was very popular in the UK throughout the first half of the 20th Century. The simple three button design is typical of the period and the three patch pockets are utilitarian yet functional ,making them ideal for men working in factories, workshops, garages and many other places. The jacket is made from a cotton drill material and features no rear vent. The front of the jacket fastens with brown coloured revolving shank buttons which are held in place with brass split rings which makes them easy to remove for washing purposes. The jacket features a notched lapel which is short and pronounced in shape and gives the jacket an early look which could easily pass for 1930s or 1940s.

Inside the jacket there are two labels, one of which has been mostly removed and had a royal appointment on it. The second label has the 'sanforized shrunk' label which is often found on British workwear from this period.

The jacket is a small size which will suit around a 38" chest and when laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 28 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition as can be seen in the photographs. It shows signs of age and wear as well as washing etc. There is some staining but overall the jacket is still very wearable. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice piece of British workwear in a classic colour and cut!
