Original 1940s CC41 Woollen Three Button Undershirt - Size 40

SOLD

Code: 53654

A rare original men's woollen undershirt made during the 1940s as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons.

This shirt is typical of those made in the 1940s and were worn by men from a variety of walks of life, as well as in the military. Whilst the Army, RAF and Royal Navy had issue vests like this, private purchase examples were often worn. They are all very similar to look at and were quite possibly made in the same factory.

The construction of the undershirt is typical of the period. It is made from an oatmeal coloured wool which is machine made. It features a round neck and three button fastening which is often referred to as 'Henley' today. Inside the shirt the CC41 label is present and bears the code H513B and the maker's initials of 'G.H'. Below this is a size tag which states the size as 40.

When laid flat the shirt measures -

Chest - 18 1/2"
Shoulders - 20 1/2"
Length - 32"

The shirt is in good wearable condition with no serious flaws or damage. It displays well but is a vintage item so please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice original 1940s undershirt with a great label.
