Original 1942 Dated British Army Officer's 1937 Pattern Valise Bag

SOLD

Code: 53605

An original 1937 pattern webbing officers' valise bag clearly dated 1942 and complete with a carrying strap.

This pattern of satchel was introduced in 1938 as part of the officers web equipment which was worn throughout the Second World War. It is made from the standard webbing material and features twig buckles to the rear which attach to the cross straps when the bag is worn on the webbing set. There is also a carry handle to the rear. The front of the bag fastens with a single tab and twig buckle.

Inside the bag the original divider is still present. There are two small pockets to the interior which fasten with brass press studs.  The maker's name of 'D.R.M Ltd' which denotes D.R. Melbourne of Chaddington Oldham as the maker is present. This is followed by the 1942 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The satchel is in reasonably good condition with some signs of age etc. It has been heavily blancoed in shade 103 blanco giving it a slightly stiff feel. The cross strap has also been blancoed and has undoubtedly always been with the bag.

A nice original example of this pattern of bag!
