Original 1950s British Made Women's Work Coat by 'Harpoon'

An original 1950s Women's cotton drill workwear coat made by 'Harpoon Brand' and in good condition.

This style of work coat was extremely popular during the mid-century period and would have been a common sight in many workplace settings. It is made from a khaki coloured cotton drill material, as was often employed for work clothing during this period due to its hard wearing nature. It features a fully buttoning single breasted front which fastens with revolving shank buttons which can be removed for washing. A patch pocket is located to the chest and another can be found to the skirt on the opposite side. Barrel cuffs also fasten with 'bachelor' buttons and the collar is of stand-and-fall design. There are belt loops fitted to the waist which would suggest the coat would have originally been fitted with a belt. 

The coat features both of its original labels which are still bright and legible. The one found inside the neck is an embroidered type and features the brand name of 'Harpoon Regd' as well as the words 'Shirts, Overalls, Sanforized regd Shrunk Fabric'. A small size ticket is also present and reads 'W.X.' There is another label to the interior of the skirt which is made of paper and features more details along with some excellent period graphics.

The coat is designed to be worn as an outer layer, and being a work piece is cut with plenty of room for movement etc. When laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 46 1/2"

The coat is in good condition with no signs of serious wear or use. There is however staining, notably along the bottom edge of the skirt and to the interior. This is reflected in the price but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
