Original 1953 Dated A.T.C Tunic - Size 5

SOLD

Code: 53526

An original Air Training Corps tunic dated 1953.

This pattern of tunic is the same as that worn by boys in the ATC during the Second World War. It is made from a blue-grey coloured serge wool and features a stand and fall collar and a fully buttoning front. Pleated patch pockets are located to the chest which fasten with metal 'A.T.C.' buttons. Larger examples of these buttons fasten the front of the jacket and there is a waist belt which is fitted with a staybrite belt buckle.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Jacket, Blue-grey A.T.C.' and the maker's name of H. Edgard & Sons Ltd. The size is marked as 5 which is designed to fit a 31" - 32" chest and a 29 1/2" waist. The 1953 date is present below which is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jacket is in good condition overall and it displays well. It does have three holes across the top of the shoulders and onto the rear of the sleeve, another towards the top of the sleeve and a couple more small holes to the front upper chest on the right. There is some discolouration along the bottoms of the pockets, most likely where the belt has rubbed. It would be possible to mend the holes but please study the pictures before purchasing.

Whilst far from a perfect example, this is still a hard to find original jacket which would make a good stand-in for a wartime example.
