Original WW2 Women's Auxiliary Air Force Tunic WAAF

SOLD

Code: 53484

An original Women's Auxiliary Air Force tunic dating from the Second World War and in well used condition.

This pattern of tunic was issued to all ranks in the WAAF under the rank of officer. It was worn throughout the Second World War as both a working uniform and a 'best' uniform. It is cut in the same manner as other British women's military tunics from WW2 from an RAF blue-grey coloured barathea wool. It features pleated pockets to the breast and flapped pockets to the skirt. The original waist belt is also still present and retains its original brass buckle. The jacket is fitted with semi embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve and early war embroidered leading aircraftwoman below these.

Inside the tunic is fully lined and features a First Field Dressing pocket to the skirt and a hanging loop to the neck. The original label is still present to the interior and bears the title 'Jacket Serge W.A.A.F.' along with the size which appears to be 10. The contract number of 292/c447 is present although the date is not. The original owner appears to have marked her serial number in ink as 2132748 as well as her name and what looks to be the date of October 1942.

The jacket is a smaller size which will suit around a 32" bust. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18"
Waist - 14 1/4"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 15 3/4"
Length - 26 1/2"

The jacket is in well worn condition and has various damage which is reflected in the price. There are small holes to the body as well as the sleeve and lots of signs of wear and fading throughout. It still displays reasonably well and is still wearable but please bear in mind that this is a far from perfect example.

An original wartime jacket complete with original insignia and label.
