Fantastic Original 1940s M41 Style Shooting Jacket by 'Bancroft'

SOLD

Code: 53198

A fantastic original late 1940s American shooting jacket made by 'Bancroft' and featuring shooting club insignia to the rear.

This jacket started life as an American Officers private purchase M41 jacket. It would have originally been the regulation green colour used for this pattern of jacket but it has been over-dyed brown during the post war period. It features a cotton outer shell and a brown coloured wool lining.  It features a belted back with action back, waist adjusters to the rear and buttoning tabs to each cuff. One of the most notable details are the front pocket flaps which are the same as the early M41 Parsons jacket. The brown plastic buttons fitted throughout are typical of US military items from this period as is the 'Conmar' branded front zip. Inside the jacket is a hanging loop below which is the original label which bears the maker's name of 'Bancroft Sportswear'

The rear of the jacket features a shooting club patch as well as the year of 1949 embroidered directly onto the cotton shell in yellow. The patch bears the name of the club 'Mare Island Rifle and Revolver Club' along with a graphic depicting an American eagle holding a shield. Large padded elbow pads are fitted to each elbow which is another typical feature to find on a shooting jacket.

The jacket is a small size which will suit around a 35" - 36" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20 3/4"
Inside arm - 17 3/4"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length - 26"

The jacket is in good condition and displays well. There are signs of wear and age as can be seen in the pictures. There is a small section of stitching missing from one of the leather elbow pads and the bottom of the zipper is worn although it still functions as it should. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, preowned jacket which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A fantastic original 1940s jacket with some brilliant details. This would make an excellent addition to any collection or wardrobe!
