Original 1940s CC41 Overcoat by 'Montague Burton' - Size 36

SOLD

Code: 53128

A stunning original 1940s men's overcoat made by Montague Burton under the CC41 utility clothing scheme.

The CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The label is now deemed to be highly desirable by many collectors due to its wartime history.

The coat is made from a striking tweed wool that has a slubby weave which gives it a flecked appearance. The silhouette is typical of the 1940s featuring a double breasted front with wide button stance, a waist belt made from matching material and featuring a leather covered buckle and two flapped pockets to the front. The waist belt has a fancy buckle system which is maker marked 'Jifix' and traps the belt tightly when fastened.

The interior of the coat features a fully lining of grey coloured rayon and a single interior pocket. Above this is the Laird Montague Burton label sometimes encountered on 1940s menswear. The CC41 utility label is found in the usual place and is a rare green version. Inside the interior pocket there is a paper label which features the Burton logo, the CC41 logo and the size of 36.

The coat is designed to fit a 36" chest but due to being cut in a loose, over-size manner it can also be worn by men of a larger size. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 18"
Length - 43 1/2"

The coat is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It is a vintage, pre-owned item which has been worn but only shows very limited signs of wear and age. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A fantastic original tweed overcoat with the coveted CC41 label and in excellent condition!
