Original 1940s CC41 Herringbone Stripe Men's Jacket by Burton - 36"

An original men's single breasted jacket made by 'Montague Burton' in the 1940s as part of the CC41 utility clothing scheme. 

The CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The label is now deemed to be highly desirable by many collectors due to its wartime history. 

The jacket is made from a striking herringbone stripe and features a single breasted front and notched lapels. All the buttons are contrasting light brown examples which are typical of the period. The jacket features three flapped pockets to the skirt and a single pocket to the breast. The interior is fully lined with a grey coloured rayon and there is a single interior pocket. Above this pocket is the maker label which is the Laird variant sometimes seen during this period. The CC41 label can be found in the usual location and bears the spec number of X227A. The original paper label is also present to the inside pocket and bears the Burton logo, the CC41 logo and the chest size of 36. 

The jacket was intended to fit a 36" chest and when laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 16"
Length - 29"

The jacket is in reasonably good condition for its age and is still very wearable. There is a repair to the right sleeve which has been well done and another area to the top of the sleeve which shows a defect. There is also another small defect to the rear and these are all detailed in the pictures. 

A nice original jacket in a striking fabric and complete with the all important CC41 label.
