Original 1940s French Bib and Brace Overalls by 'St Michel'

SOLD

Code: 53125

An original pair of French workwear bib and brace overalls made by 'St Michel' in the 1940s.

These overalls are made from a classic French blue coloured cotton moleskin fabric which was an extremely popular choice for workwear garments in France during this period. Bib and brace overalls were popular with many types of working men from artisans to tradesmen and would have been a common sight for many years. The basic design is typical featuring a bib front which is held up with cross straps. There is a side opening which fastens with buttons and there are two positions they can be fastened in. Large pockets are located below this and another patch pocket is located to the chest. Another patch pocket and a small spanner pocket can be found to the rear. All the buttons are metal and the reverse features the markings of A. Raymond made examples which are again typical of the era.

Inside the overalls the original label is still present bearing the maker's name of 'A. St. Michel'. It features graphics typical of the period.

The overalls are designed to be worn over clothing and are cut with this in mind. They will suit someone of around a 36" - 38" chest well.  They measure 16" at the waist and have a 27" inside leg which will fit a 29" well.

The coveralls are in well used condition but are still very wearable. They show signs of wear and age which can be seen in the pictures. Please take time to study this and bear in mind that they are a vintage pair of pre-owned overalls which have some issues.

A great looking set of bib and brace with loads of great details!
