Original 1940s Men's Collarless Shirt by 'Alesco'

SOLD

Code: 53118

An original 1940s wool flannel collarless shirt made by 'Alesco' and in good condition.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s as well as in the 1950s to a lesser degree. It is made from a cream coloured wool which has a classic blue  and oatmeal striped pattern running through it. The shirt is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity. The shirt features a barrel cuff which fastens with a button.

These shirts are often described as 'double front' as the upper portion of the shirt features two layers of wool making for a very warm shirt!

The collar is a neckband style made from white cotton and bears the size of 15 marked to it. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior which features typical period graphics. The maker's name of 'Alesco Regd' is present as are the words 'shirts' and 'Pyjamas.

The shirt is a medium size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 19 1/4"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at front - 30 1/2"
Length at back - 34  1/2"
Collar - 15"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in very good condition and is still very wearable. There are no serious flaws but it is a vintage, pre-worn shirt of course so may have other small issues commensurate with age - so please take time to study the pictures.

An original period shirt with a great label which is in good condition!
