Original WW2 British Army Officers Greatcoat - Size 34

SOLD

Code: 53113

An original British Army Officer's Greatcoat dating from the 1940s and in good condition.

This pattern of coat was used for many years by British Officers from the time of the Great War all the way through to the 1950s. This particular example has all the hallmarks of a WW2 period example. It is made from a heavy khaki melton wool fabric and is partially lined with rayon. It features two flapped pockets to the outside and a half belt to the rear. The coat is fitted with period brown leather 'football' buttons and two pips can be found to the shoulder and denote the rank of Lieutenant. A metal hanging chain is fitted to the neck and the original throat latch is still present and buttoned to the interior.

The coat is a smaller size which will fit around a 34-36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length - 48"

The coat is in very good condition for its age with some signs of age and use. There is a small hole to the left sleeve (picture 6) and there are a few moth nips to the skirt (picture 10) although these are covered when the coat is worn or displayed. The coat is not perfect but overall displays well and is still very wearable. Please take time to study the pictures.

A nice original officers greatcoat in good condition. It is always nice to have officer's items which have a rank lower than captain!
