Original 1940s British Army Khaki Drill Tunic w/ Football Buttons

SOLD

Code: 53106

An original British Army Khaki Drill Officer's tunic in good condition, dating from the 1940s.

This style of tunic was worn by a wide variety of regiments during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The construction of this example will suggest it was made in the 1930s and 1940s and is a higher quality item than theatre made examples. It is made from a khaki tan coloured cotton drill and features machine stitched buttonholes. Plastic 'football' buttons have been fitted which are a typical period addition which were popular with officers as an alternative to regimental buttons. They are held on with simple bits of wire which is crude but how the jacket was worn originally. I can supply period brass split rings if so desired. There is evidence of where rank stars have been fitted to the epaulettes and collar badges have been fitted to the collar which confirms this as a British Army tunic.

The tunic will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Length - 18"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"

The overall condition of the jacket is good and it displays well. There are some signs of wear and use and a small amount of stitching has pulled under the arm as shown in picture 6. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original WW2 period tunic with fantastic buttons!
