Original 1951 Dated British Royal Navy Action Working Dress Shorts

SOLD

Code: 53081

A rare pair of original Royal Navy Action Working Dress shorts dating from 1945s.

This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1945 and saw limited issue at the end of the Second World War. The shorts or trousers were worn with a shirt made from a light blue cotton and was clearly based on the US Navy chambray shirt and dungarees. This dress became the standard working dress in the post-war period and was often referred to as No.8 Dress.

The shorts are made from an indigo blue coloured cotton twill and feature double belt and buckles to fasten the waist. This style was first seen on the 1941 pattern Khaki Drill shorts and trousers and is a classic piece of 1940s uniform design. The fly fastens with buttons and slash pockets are located to the hips. A single patch pocket can be found at the rear.

The original label is still present inside the shorts and states the size as 1 along with the manufacturer's name of 'Johnson & Sons' and the 1951 date.

The shorts will suit someone of around a 28" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 14"
Rise - 14"
Rear rise - 17"
Inside leg - 8"
Outside leg - 19 1/2"
Cuff - 12"

The shorts are in used condition with some signs of use and age. They are still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A rare piece of British workwear complete with original label.
