Original 1955 Dated 1950 Pattern British Jungle Green Shorts - Size 7

SOLD

Code: 53064

An original pair of British Military 1950 Pattern Jungle Green shorts dated 1955 and in a size No. 7.

This pattern of shorts is the same as the Khaki Drill version which was introduced at the tail end of the Second World War. They saw service for a number of years with the British Army and RAF. This style with the cross belt fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha Shorts'.

The shorts feature the cross belt closure and are fitted with non standard chrome plate grip buckles. The shorts are made from a green dyed cotton drill and feature a button fly and slash pockets to the hips. Twin pockets can be found to the rear.

Inside the shorts retain their original maker's label which bears the title of 'Shorts, Drill Green, 1950 Pattern'. The size is marked as 7 which is designed to fit a 31" - 33" waist and the maker's name of 'J. G. Greenaway & Co Ltd' is also present. Below this is the 1955 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

Due to the style of the waistband the shorts are slightly adjustable. When fastened on the loosest setting they measure -

Waist - 15 1/2"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 17"
Inside leg - 6"
Outside leg - 19"
Cuff - 13 1/4"

The shorts are in worn condition but are still wearable with signs of wear and use. There is a repair to the front and plenty of staining including what looks like yellow paint to the seat. Please study the pictures provided and bear in mind that these are not a perfect, brand new item but have various signs of age and wear.

All in all a reasonable pair of original 1950 pattern shorts which would make a good addition to any collection.
