Original 1920s British Khaki Cotton Shorts by 'CWS'

SOLD

Code: 53059

A stunning pair of British khaki cotton shorts made by 'CWS' in the 1920s.

CWS, or the Co-operative Workers Society to give its full name,  was a prolific manufacturer of menswear during the inter-war period. Better known today as the 'Co-op' in the UK, CWS supplied many items including footwear, suiting and casual clothing.

These shorts are typical of early shorts in design. They feature a flat front and a narrow leg which give the shorts a typical Edwardian to 1920s look when worn. They are made from a cotton drill material which has a deeper hue to the colour than later shorts and is typical of Khaki Drill items made for the military in the Great War and early inter-war period. The shorts feature a button fly which fastens with metal buttons, all of which are marked 'CWS'. Belt loops are located around the waist and straight slash pockets can be found to the side seams. A patch pocket is located to the rear and features a flap which fastens with a single button. Waist adjusters are also present to each hip and are a great period feature.

Inside the shorts the original label is still present and bears the CWS logo above the style '15 Khaki'. Below this is a smaller label with the numeral 2 which relates to size.

The shorts will suit someone of a 30" waist and when laid flat they measure -

Waist - 15"
Rise - 13"
Rear rise - 15"
Inside leg - 8"
Outside leg - 19"
Cuff - 10"

The condition of the shorts is excellent, especially considering their age. There are only limited signs of wear and use and they are still very wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-owned pair of shorts which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A fantastic pair of early British shorts with a great label!
