Original 1940s British Wool Work Shirt by 'Uniform Brand'

SOLD

Code: 53047

An original 1940s wool work shirt made in Great Britain by 'uniform brand'.

This shirt is typical of the period when collared attached shirts were gaining popularity. The shirt is made from a coarse, khaki coloured wool and features a half placket front which is pulled on over the head. A single patch pocket is located to the chest and is quite typical in its style to those often found on work shirts. The stand and fall collar has a subtle spearpoint shape and barrel cuffs are located to the end of each sleeve and fasten with a single button.

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Uniform Brand' around a graphic of a ship. Below this are the words 'Made in England'. There is also a small size label which bears the number 3. To the tail of the shirt there is a paper cutters tag which has 'C40' written in pencil and most likely relates to the chest size. The fact that this label is still present would suggest that the shirt has only seen very little use.

The shirt will suit a 38" - 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 3/4"
Inside arm - 19 3/4"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Length at front - 32"
Length at back - 35"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Collar - 15 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition and is still very wearable. There is some fading which is more evident in the pictures than when the shirt is worn. There are also some small holes to the front and rear tails of the shirt as shown in the pictures. These are not noticeable when worn as the tail is normally tucked in. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn work shirt which has small issues commensurate with age.

A fantastic 1940s work shit in a good size and with a great label!
