Original Indian Made British Army Wool Shirt - Major Lowe 4 Division

SOLD

Code: 53012

A scarce original Indian made wool shirt as used by the British Army during the Second World War.

This shirt belonged to Major D. J. Lowe who served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps during the Second World War. He saw service with the 8th Army in North Africa before going to Italy with the 4th Division during 1944. It has been in a trunk since the war and is a guaranteed wartime item.

The shirt is made from a soft grey coloured wool flannel and features a half placket front, pleated chest pockets and Indian stamped zinc buttons. The collar features a large, spearpoint shape which is typical of the 1940s and epaulettes are located to each shoulder. Printed 4th Division flashes have been added to each shoulder which are a nice detail.

The shirt is a small to medium size which will suit a 38 -40" chest well. When laid flat measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 23 1/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 27"

The shirt is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. There is however some staining and a small hole to the front as is detailed in the pictures. Please take time to study the photographs and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn shirt which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very rare wartime shirt which was worn during the Italian campaign. More items belonging to Major D J Lowe are also listed separately.
