Original 1960s Belstaff Dalesman Smock

SOLD

Code: 52834

An original Belstaff Dalesman smock dating from the 1960s and in worn condition.

This is arguably one of the most iconic British smocks ever made. The design is truly classic being simple with subtle details. Designed as an outer garment for walking, climbing, mountaineering and other outdoor pursuits; the smock is made from a grey coloured cotton gabardine and is fully lined with a yellow coloured twill which is one of the distinguishing features of the 'Dalesman'. A large pocket is located to the chest, the flap of which fastens with buttons. Under the flap is a 'Lightning' branded zipper which is marked with the letter L. Two more pockets are located to the skirt and fasten with buttons. A hood is also present, the bottom of which fastens with another Lightning branded zipper. Inside the smock is a strap which can be fastened between the wearer's legs in adverse weather conditions.

Inside the smock there is clear evidence of where the original label was previously attached. There is no size indicated but due to the cut it will fit a few chest sizes around a 38 - 40" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 25 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 3/4"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 28"

The smock is in well worn condition but is still wearable. There is wear and damage along the bottom hem and wear to the cuffs. There are various stains and marks all of which add to the unique character of the smock. Please study the pictures carefully before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage and well worn item which has flaws.

One of the most iconic and influential designs of smock to ever come out of the UK and a must have for the serious vintage collector!
