Original 1940s Men's Overcoat by 'Eiderlixe'

SOLD

Code: 52792

An original men's double breasted overcoat made by 'Eiderluxe' in the 1940s.

This coat is cut in a typical manner for the period but is of higher quality than many other coats made at the same time. It is made from a deep pile wool which is a brown colour and features a quilted rayon lining. The front features a double breasted closure and patch pockets to the front. The sleeve features a turn-back cuff and the rear features a vent. There are belt loops for a waist belt although this is not one with the coat.

Inside the coat there are two labels. To the neck is the maker's label which bears the name of 'Eiderluxe'. Behind the name is the graphic of a duck and hence the inclusion of the word 'eider' and the words 'A Co-Mar Luxury coat' are found below this. A second label can be found inside the coat which is the shop label. These Eiderluxe coats were sold to various outfitters across the country and I have included a period advert from a similar outfitters in the pictures. This coat was sold by 'Harry Tombs' of Scunthorpe as can be read on the typical period label.

These coats are cut in a loose, oversize manner as they are intended to be worn as an outer layer over a suit etc. This coat will fit a 40" - 42" chest well depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 26 3/4"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 47 1/2"

The coat is in reasonably good condition for its age and is still very wearable. It does show signs of wear and age and has one replaced button to the front. Please study the pictures carefully before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original 1940s high quality overcoat with great labels!
