Stunning Original Early 1950s British Tweed Two Piece Suit

SOLD

Code: 52741

A fantastic original British made men's tweed suit dating from the early 1950s and in a harder to find tall size.

This suit is cut from a beautifully brown and oatmeal coloured tweed which features a striking bright green overcheck which really sets it apart from other period suits. The cut is typical of a country suit from the period with the jacket being slightly longer in the body and featuring a rear vent. It has a three button, single breasted front and a pronounced lapel which is also typical of the period. The cuff is none functioning and features three buttons, a breast pocket is located in the usual place and flapped pockets can be found to the lower portion of the jacket. Inside the jacket is fully lined with rayon and features a hanging loop to the neck and two interior pockets.

The trousers are also typical of the period being cut with a high rise waist and featuring a wide leg with turn up at the cuff. The fly fastens with buttons and more buttons are located around the inside edge of the waistband to which braces can be attached. A large ticket pocket is located below the waistband and a single rear pocket can be found to the seat. The front of the trousers features twin pleats and angled pockets and waist adjusters are located to each hip which are another nice period detail.

The suit will suit a taller man with a 40" chest and when laid flat measures -

Jacket
Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 26 3/4"
Shoudlers - 18 1/2"
Length - 31"

Trousers
Waist - 16 1/4"
Rise - 14 1/2"
Rear rise - 20"
Inside leg - 33"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 10 3/4"

The suit is in good condition for its age but does have signs of wear and use. Being made of a high quality tweed it is very robust and has stood the test of time well although it does have some flaws. The most obvious of these is a few small repairs to the crotch which are detailed in picture 16. These are much more obvious with the suit laid flat then when worn and could potentially be professionally re-worked by an invisible mender. The jacket has wear around the collar with a slight amount of discolouration to the fold and there is wear to the arm holes and an ink stain to the interior (pictures 10 + 11). The suit has clearly seen plenty of wear but has a lot of life left in it and looks great on. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which has small issues commensurate with age.

A rare British suit in a hard to find tall size and cut from a fantastic tweed cloth. This would make an excellent addition to any wardrobe or collection!
