Original 1954 Dated Men's Double Breasted Jacket by 'M. Newman'

SOLD

Code: 52713

An original men's double breasted grey herringbone stripe double breasted jacket made by 'M. Newman' in 1954.

This jacket is typical of those worn by men in the 1940s and 1950s. It features a 4 by 1 closure with a wide button stance and a large, peaked lapel. A chest pocket is also present as are flapped lower pockets whilst the lapels feature opposing buttonholes. The jacket is cut from a striking grey-blue herringbone weave wool cloth and is fully lined.

Inside the jacket the maker's label is present and bears the name 'M. Newman' and the place name of Sheffield. To the inside pocket is another label which again bears the maker's name as well as the original owner's name of A. R. Cox and the 1954 date.

The jacket will suit someone of a 36" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 17 1/4"
Outside arm - 25 3/4"
Length - 30 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 3/4"

The jacket is in reasonable condition for its age but does have some flaws. There is wear to the cuffs as detailed in the pictures and some superficial damage which is mainly to the rear and again is shown in the pictures. Please study them before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage item.
Whilst not in perfect condition this is still a nice jacket which is made from a lovely cloth and features some nice period details.
