Original 1960s British Wax Cotton Motorcycle Jacket by Lewis Leathers

£195.00 Approx $242.54, €227.8

Code: 52698

An original British made wax cotton motorcycle jacket made by Lewis Leathers the 1960s which is a size 40.

This jacket no longer has its original label but is clearly a Lewis Leather's 'Aviakit' brand example which is known as the 'Mudlarker' No. 641. The jacket would have original had the classic Aviakit label to the neck and oval Lewis Leathers badge to the chest. The jacket is clearly modelled on the Belstaff trialmaster but has some subtle differences which denote this an an avikit example. Lewis Leathers had items made in various factories all over the UK during this period and may well have used the same factory as Belstaff.

The jacket is made from the standard waxed cotton used for these jackets and features four pockets to the front including the angled left breast pocket which is also found on the trialmaster. The pocket even features the same web detail which connects the flap and pocket and stops water running in (pictures 3 + 4). The zip is also the same as found on many Belstaff jackets from the 1950s and 1960s and is made by 'Aero'. All the press studs are present and are made of brass as is typical to find during this period. The interior is lined with a checked cotton material and features a pocket in the same place as the Belstaff but without a press stud to secure the flap. This jacket features the same short collar which is lined with corduroy and features a strap and buckle fastening. The cuff detail is also the same as found on the Belstaff.

The jacket will fit a 40" chest well depending on the desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 3/4"
Length - 28 1/2"

The jacket is in used, worn condition as they nearly always are! It has a great, worn-in look to it and certainly appears to be very wearable. The zip works as do the press studs. Please study the pictures before purchasing and remember that this is a pre-worn, vintage jacket which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice original 1960s motorcycle jacket with loads of character and details!
