Original 1950s British Army Denim Battledress Trousers

SOLD

Code: 52693

An original pair of British Denim Battledress Trousers dating from the 1950s

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforized cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design; these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

The label and this particular pair of trousers has been washed out meaning they are impossible to date exactly. Whilst they most likely date from the 1950s they could date from the 1940s or even the Second World War.

It is important to remember that these are designed to fit over the wool battledress trousers so need to be worn oversize for an authentic fit. I would recommend that these would fit a 32" waist well. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 17"
Rise - 15 1/2"
Rear rise - 17"
Inside leg - 28"
Outside leg - 41"
Cuff - 9"

The trousers are in reasonable condition for their age and have a great, worn look to them. There are a number of period repairs done using matching denim material and lots of wear to the edge of the pockets and the fly. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a pre-owned and well worn pair of vintage work trousers which have some small issues commensurate with this.

A nice original pair of denim trousers which have a fantastic worn-in look.
