Original British Khaki Drill Bush Jacket - S M Shah, Aden

 An original British Army Officers Khaki Drill Bush Jacket made in Aden in the 1950s, or possibly earlier. 

This style of bush jacket was a popular alternative to the standard Khaki Drill Service Dress jacket worn by British officers for many years. They became popular in the Second World War and stayed in vogue for many years after the war. Being a theatre made example with no date the jacket is impossible to date exactly but was most likely made in the 1950s. It is possible that it dates from the 1940s however as the cut and materials did not change. 

The jacket is made from a khaki coloured cotton drill and features plain patch pockets to the chest and flapped pockets to the skirt. Like most bush jackets it features a stand and fall collar which is worn open at the neck. The sleeves feature a turn-back cuff and epaulettes are fitted to each shoulder and show signs of where badges have been fitted previously. The jacket is fitted with butterscotch buttons throughout, all of which are held in place with the correct brass split rings. 

Inside the jacket a small tailors label is present and features sans-serif graphics which are typical of theatre made items from this period. It bears the maker's name of 'S. M. Shah & Sons' and the place name of Maalla, Aden. 

The tunic will fit a 36" chest and when laid flat measures - 

Chest - 20"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length - 32"

The tunic is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It does not show any serious signs of wear or use although there are a few stains. Please study the pictures before purchasing.
