Original 1955 Dated US Army Convalescent Jacket

SOLD

Code: 52632

An original United States Army Summer Hospital top in new old stock, un-worn condition.

Officially designated 'Coat, Convalescent Suit, Summer' this short, lightweight jacket was designed to be worn by soldiers recovering in hospitals during the summer months. It is an almost identical jacket to the pattern standardised in 1945 although this pattern dates from 1953.

The jacket itself is made from a royal blue coloured lightweight cotton which is ideally suited to wear in the summer months. The front fastens with buttons as well as a small pop stud which is located on a tab at the bottom of the fly. Slash pockets are located to the front of the body whilst a patch pocket, which has the US Medical Corp logo embroidered directly on to it, is located to the left breast. The shirt features a fantastic spearpoint collar shape which is typical of the era.

Inside the shirt the original markings are still bright and legible and state the size as large and the manufacture date as 20 May 1955. When laid flat the shirt measures -

Chest - 26 1/2"
Waist - 23 3/4"
Shoulders - 21 1/2"
Length - 26 1/2"

The jacket is in excellent condition and appears to be new old stock showing no signs of previous wear or use. It is however a vintage item so please study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice original 1950s top!
