Original 1954 Dated RAF Leather Jerkin - Personalised

SOLD

Code: 52615

An original RAF Leather Jerkin dating from 1954 and with artwork to the breast.

This pattern of leather jerkin came into issue with the British Army during the Great War and stayed in service throughout the Second World War and well into the post-war years. This particular example is the RAF pattern which features an RAF blue blanket serge lining.

The jerkin features what appears to be initials painted in yellow to the left breast which reads 'RGH'. A nice period addition! The jerkin is fitted with four non-matching buttons which all appear to be period. These buttons are prone to falling off so finding jerkins with replacement buttons such as these is very normal. They were almost certainly replaced at the time.

Inside the jerkin the original label is present which bears the makers name of 'Boldsworth Ind Ltd', the 1954 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. The size is stated as 2 which is designed to fit a 37-43" chest over jacket. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23 1/4"
Shoulders - 21 1/2"
Length - 33 1/2"

The condition of the jerkin is good for its age but it does have plenty of signs of wear and use. There is wear to the leather and some period repairs. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned vintage workwear garment that has issues commensurate with age.

RAF issue leather jerkins are very rare to find today. This would make an excellent addition to any RAF collection without a doubt!
