Original 1940s Men's Double Breasted Jacket by 'Burton' - Size 38

SOLD

Code: 52538

An original British navy blue coloured double breast 6x4 Jacket dating from the 1940s and made by 'Burton'.

This style of jacket was extremely popular in the 1930s and 1940s. It was originally been part of a suit but would also likely have been worn with grey flannel trousers or slacks - a very popular casual look during this period. The jacket is cut in a typically 1930s style being short in the body and featuring no rear vent. The large, peaked lapels are also typical of the era as is the rayon lining. The materials are heavy, designed for warmth and make the jacket 'hang' very nicely - much better than modern lightweight fabrics!

Inside the jacket the original makers label is still present and bears the name 'Montague Burton' as well as the tag line 'Tailor of taste'. The style of the label is that used from the late 1930s through to the early 1950s. Inside the interior pocket is a paper label which bears various details including the chest size of 38.

The jacket will suit a 38" chest and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 26"
Length - 29 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"

The jacket is in good condition for its age and it is still very wearable. Overall the jacket is in nicecondition but does have have a small hole to the left cuff and a couple more very small holes to the front as detailed in picture 4. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item of around 80 years old which has some flaws and is far from perfect condition.

A nice original pre-war jacket which would look great paired with grey flannels as a sports jacket!
