Original 1940s Men's Wool Flannel Collarless Shirt by 'Boar Brand'

SOLD

Code: 52457

An original 1940s wool flannel collarless shirt by 'Boar Brand' with a 16" collar.

This shirt is typical of those made and worn during the 1930s and 1940s. It is made from an oatmeal coloured wool which has a blue pinstripe running through it. It is of half placket design which is pulled on over the head. This design was prevalent from the Victorian period through to the 1950s when full button front shirts started to gain popularity. The shirt features a barrel cuff which fastens with a button.

The collar is a neckband style made from white cotton. It is designed to be worn with a detachable collar but can also be worn without one. Below this the original label is still present to the interior and features a label with typical period graphics. It features a Boars head in red as well as the name 'Boar Brand' and the style 'Ribble'. The words 'Made in England' follow.

The shirt is a medium size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length at front - 33"
Length at back - 34  1/2"

It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.

The shirt is in reasonable condition for its age with signs of wear and age. There are some holes to the front as shown in picture 5 and some staining also. This is a vintage, pre-worn shirt however and may have small issues commensurate with age so please take time to study the pictures.

An original period shirt with a great label. It would suit a variety of wartime uniforms including LDV, Home Guard and many more.
